About Us

The Road Runners Club of America is the premier national organization dedicated to promoting the development and growth of running clubs, running events, and supporting the interests of recreational runners throughout the country including those that walk because they are unable to run. The RRCA strives to provide quality programming that can be replicated throughout the country by member clubs from small towns to large cities that promote and support running, runners, and supporters of the sport at all stages in life. The RRCA is dedicated to providing the running community with educational information and programs that will keep them safe, healthy, and informed. Furthermore, the RRCA strives to promote excellence in nonprofit management for the National Office as well as member clubs by providing services, benefits, and regular communication that supports this vision.

Sandy Walton, RRCA Maine State Rep, is a recreational runner dedicated to the promotion of grassroots running in the state of Maine. Not afraid of working hard and helping where needed, Sandy received the Maine Track Club’s President’s Award in 2004, the Outstanding Contribution to Maine Running Award in 2005, and the John Fyalka Award in 2006 for her involvement as Membership Chairperson, Newsletter Editor & Layout, as well as Founder/Leader of the MTC Roasters Run that continues to meet every single Saturday morning since March 2004, even running through blizzards and sub-zero temps. As editor of the MTC NewsRun, she won the RRCA’s National Awards for Best E-Newsletter in 2006 and Best (Mid-Sized Club) Newsletter in 2005. She is currently the managing editor of RRCA's online publication, FOOTNOTES. Sandy majored in Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Virginia Tech, and Maine College of Art. Her short running career as a back-of-the-packer includes the Marine Corps Marathon and half a dozen Half Marathons around the country. Her husband, two daughters, two sons, German Shepherd Dog, and Siamese cat have been very supportive.

Mark Grandonico, RRCA Eastern Regional Director, was in the Coast Guard for over twenty years and was decorated for his accomplishments. He is currently a Compliance Specialist and Auditor for the largest hospital system in Maine. Mark holds a bachelors degree from Regents College in New York. Mark is a member of the Maine Track Club where he has served as a board member-at-large, vice president, and club president since 2005. During his tenure as the Maine Track Club president, Mark has been noted for his organizational, communication, fund-raising and recruiting skill. Under his guidance, the Maine Track Club has donated over $300,000 to local charities and schools in Maine. Mark has been the RRCA Maine State Representative and a member of the RRCA Audit Committee for two years.  Mark has also been a race director for over eight years and is a member of the Beach to Beacon 10K organizing committee.
